One way, or many.
A single driver that does everything, or a team of specialists? Two honest paths, and no outright winner.
The full-range driver: a single voice
One driver reproducing almost everything sings from a single point: the notes arrive together, none chasing another. This is coherence — the quality the ear recognises at once as natural, like a single voice carrying an entire aria alone.
The price of that purity is the extremes: the deepest bass and the highest highs ask more than one cone can give. That is why, when the music calls for it, a dedicated piece is added for the low end.
Multi-way: each to its craft
From two-way upward, the work is shared out: one driver for the bass, one for the highs — and, higher still, one for the voices in between. Each does only what it does best, and a crossover hands it its part, like a conductor giving every section the right score.
The gains are in extension, in dynamics and in composure at high volume. The whole art lies in the hand-off from one driver to the next: it must be invisible, so that a single scene remains.
How we choose at ACUSTICA
No philosophy is best in the absolute: there is only the one right for each project. That is why our range embraces both — Stele entrusts everything to a single full-range voice, Vox divides the work in two ways, Gemina articulates it in three.
We make the choice together, starting from the room and the way you listen — never from dogma.
