Stone or wood?
Wood is the material almost every loudspeaker is made of. Not because it is the best: because it is the easiest. An honest comparison.
Why almost everyone uses wood
Wood is easy to cut, glue and finish, and cheap to work. It is the right choice for mass production — not necessarily the best one for sound.
What changes with stone
The mass and stiffness of stone curb the movement of the walls far more than wood. In return stone is heavy, unforgiving of mistakes and worked by hand: that is why it is costly, and why it is rare.
When it makes sense
If you want a speaker to hide away, wood is perfectly fine. If you want an object that is furniture and instrument at once — and that lasts — stone is another category altogether.
